After only just returning from the South of France i stumbled upon Au Revoir while waiting for my daughter to browse an op shop (its something she does on a regular basis and it is ery tiring playing the waiting game) I dont normally buy an actual physical book these days as i have a kindle. But as the pages of this book rolled over i was transported back to where i think i have left my heart. I am working slowly chipping away at my husband to retire in the Black Mountain area of Southern France which we adored. I absolutely loved this book and i have since downloaded the versions of the rest of Marys wonderfully evocative books.
Well known gardening writer and TV gardening show host, Mary Moody, decides that, at 50, she deserves a break from the demands of family and household chores, and takes herself off to France where she lives the life of a local, and immerses herself in local culture, food and wine. This book is really a diary of sorts where she records the impressive meals she consumes and the gallons of red wine with which she washes them down. Most of the friends she makes, with a few exceptions, are expat Australians, Brits and Americans which somewhat defeats her intentions of learning to speak French like a native, but her descriptions of the local gardens and flora are excellent. It's a quick, light read which most people would enjoy.
When I received the book it was curled. I put in between two heavier books and it has flattened out.
Mary Moody is very insightful on her life events and makes a woman feel like she is able to do anything.
Great adventures and she takes you to a place in your mind away from everyday issue's
Mary Moody captures the depth and richness of human emotion and interaction with ease. I was transported to the south of France page after page.
A wonderful exciting read. Amazing insights to the delights of living in France.
Mary Moody sets the scene just as I recall my experiences in France.
